The Buchmans are returning! It has just been confirmed that “Mad About You” is coming back on the air with members of the old-school cast, including Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser.
“We are so excited to finally be doing this,” stated Reiser and Hunt in a joint press conference about the upcoming series. “We promise you the same funny and heartwarming show — as soon as we can remember what’s funny about being older. It’s going to be great!”
The concept of the new “Mad About You” reboot is pretty straight forward. Whereas the original show honed in on the newlyweds as they tackled topics like in-laws, careers, pets, pregnancy and parenthood, the new series will focus on what it’s like to be an empty-nester.
When we last saw the Buchmans, Paul and Jamie had a little girl named Mabel. Now, she’s all grown up and off on her own. Her departure has left Paul and Jamie to explore what it means to be partners after your job as parents has drastically changed.
Since the show ended, Hunt and Reiser have stayed close. The duo have been teasing for years about teaming up again to do a “Mad About You” return. Seeing the success of the “Will and Grace” reboot made Hunt recognize how much fun it would be to get the old gang back together again.
Hunt tweeted about the upcoming show, sharing a photo of her and Reiser in the original show. “LETS GO!” she wrote in the caption.

“I’ve been watching Will & Grace and laughing so hard out loud,” Hunt tells PEOPLE magazine. “They’re just crushing it. I have remained very, very close friends with Paul. Reboot or no reboot, we have lunch once a month. We really enjoy and care for each other. It was a very loving piece of work. We loved it. It would be fun to work on something that’s really about love.”
