Blind dog gets his own ‘seeing eye’ dog. Excuse us, we can’t see through happy tears

Charlie was getting along just fine on his own. The blind 11-year-old Golden Retriever did not want a tiny upstart puppy named Maverick moving in to his house.

But his loving family, Adam and Chelsea Stipe, were thinking that after losing one eye to glaucoma in 2016 and another one a year later, Charlie could use some company around the house. Maverick, a 4-month-old, became Charlie’s eyes. After not time they were quickly becoming friends, playing together and eventually Charlie even gave his pillow to Maverick.

The friendship is going viral on the internet as the dogs’ Instagram account is now at 79,000 followers.

The North Carolina couple only introduced Maverick to Charlie in January, according to “Today.” The older dog’s initial hesitation gave way to love as the puppy walks beside to him and makes sure he can find his misplaced toys.

“When they would play, Maverick would realize that Charlie would lose the toy sometimes, so (Maverick) would pick it up and put it back in front of him to re-engage playtime,” Chelsea Stipe told NBC Philadelphia.

Stipe also recently welcomed a new baby into the adorable family. She said she could not wait to get a new companion for Charlie that her new baby can grow up with.

“For us it was a no-brainer: Empty our retirement plan to care for this dog because he makes us happy,” she told the NBC affiliate.
